Big Hug!

As I sit here with a broken foot, I can’t help but think back to almost two years ago when I walked into Crossfit Lake Mary for the first time.  I was scared out of my mind and in such bad physical shape I didn’t even make it through the free trial!  I was rapidly approaching a size 16 and was miserable.  I had never done anything like this before, oh yeah I had been to every type of gym, personal trainer, even Curves for women but nothing ever lasted and I could feel myself giving up.

Then I met Jen and Kellie and my life changed.  Jen was actually in a boot for a broken foot so Kellie did the free trial.  I felt like we connected instantly and as I sat there gasping for air, Jen asked me if I wanted to sign up and I said yes…probably from the lack of oxygen to my brain at that very minute.

Time for Foundations.  I walked in to see Kellie with her always smiling face and met my two partners in crime.  For those of you who know Jasmine, it is a wonder I ever came back since I had to do my foundations class with her!  LOL!!!  But I made it through and that Saturday was my first official WOD!  I was so nervous but when I walked in but when I was greeted by so many people of all shapes, sizes and ability and knew I was home. I kept thinking no one will want to partner with me, but they did and it didn’t even matter that I didn’t have a clue as to what I was doing…I was there and in the CF world…that is what matters most.

I have had my up’s and down’s and almost gave up a few times but there is something about the chemistry at the box and the friendships you make that keeps you coming back.  Where else can you be down with the flu for a week and the owner of the gym, or other member’s text and Facebook you to make sure you are OK. Even now with my broken foot, Coach B took the time to modify every WOD for me so that I can still work out and not lose all of the progress I have gained.  The support and encouragement you get here is like nothing I have ever experienced.  And the HUGS!!  Don’t get me started on the hugs…I love them!  Everyone hugs each other here!

So what have I accomplished in less than two years?  I did my first Crossfit competition and deadlifted 205 lbs…I signed up for the Endurance Class even though I hate running, and ran a 5K just for practice in a little over 40 minutes…I completely changed my relationship with food and have never felt better.  I surprise myself every day and have learned so much about what I am made of and how strong of a woman, both inside and out I really am.  I have made the most amazing friends and I can’t imagine what would have happened to me if I had not made that call…walked into that free trial…did the foundations class…and kept coming to WOD.

So if you are reading this and trying to get up the nerve to walk in, please don’t wait…it will be the best move you have ever made!  And if you do come in make sure to find me and say hello…I will give you a HUGE HUG!!
