Row, row, row your boat!
You may be surprised to learn that becoming a better rower, will also make you a better runner. Rowing, done correctly, will give a runner an awesome cardio workout, strengthen the core and back, and improve calve and hamstring flexibility.
A good runner needs good cardiovascular endurance. Rowing is a great way to get in some serious endurance training in a non-impact form. It gives your joints, knees and feet a bit of a break and can be a great training tool during times of injury.
A runner’s posture, or “pose”, is a key component to efficient running, and rowing can actually help improve your posture. Bad posture leads to bad form, which leads to sore backs, knees and hips. If you row correctly, you will develop a stronger core and midline stability and this will transfer onto the track!!!
Don’t get me wrong, if you want to be a better runner, you are going to have to run, but the rowing machine can be a secret weapon to make you stronger, faster and more efficient!
